Coaching & Training

We are still building our 2026/27 coaching team. 💙💛
Before we can finalise our training schedule and logistics, each age group needs to have a coach assigned who is willing to lead their group at training.
You don’t need previous coaching experience! Our age group coaches are supported by the Centre, with coaching manuals, session ideas and resources available online through Little Athletics Queensland.
Interested in helping your child’s age group? We’d love to have you on the team!

Once all age groups have coaches assigned, we’ll be able to finalise and communicate our training arrangements for the season.
No coach = no organised training for that age group, so parent involvement makes a huge difference! 💙
At Centenary Little Athletics, we believe the best results happen when families get involved.
This season, we're introducing a new Centre Coaching model designed to give every athlete more support while making volunteering achievable for busy families.
Our weekly training sessions (1 hour – day to be confirmed) focus on developing athletics skills while teaching valuable life lessons such as teamwork, perseverance, resilience and confidence. Most importantly, they provide a fun, active and supportive environment where kids can learn, grow and enjoy being part of our community.
A Team Effort Rather than relying on just a handful of coaches, we're inviting parents and carers to become Age Group Coaches.
Don't worry—you don't need previous coaching experience or an athletics background.
We'll provide training, session plans, resources and ongoing support throughout the season. Our experienced Centre Coaches will be on the field each week, moving between age groups to demonstrate techniques, answer questions and help both coaches and athletes develop.
This approach means every age group receives consistent support while building stronger connections between families.

"I Don't Want to Coach My Own Child"
That's completely okay!
Some parents love coaching their own child, while others prefer not to—and that's perfectly understandable. If you'd rather coach a different age group, simply let us know. We'll do our best to match volunteers in a way that works for everyone.
Many parents are surprised to discover that coaching another group actually allows them to support all athletes equally while giving their own child the independence to learn from another trusted adult.

Busy Life? We've Thought About That.
We know family life is busy. We all have one too.
That's why training runs for just one hour each week, and you'll never be expected to know everything. The goal isn't to create elite coaches overnight—it's to create a welcoming environment where children can improve together, supported by parents and experienced mentors.
Even giving one hour a week helps make our Centre stronger.

Why It Matters
Children make the greatest progress when they practise regularly.
Attending weekly training helps athletes build confidence, improve their technique and develop the skills needed to achieve new Personal Bests at our Friday night competition meets.
Friday nights are where athletes put their training into action. While our Centre Coaches are always available to offer guidance, competition night isn't designed to provide full coaching for every event. Regular training is the best way for athletes to improve throughout the season.
At the heart of it all, Centre Coaching isn't just about creating better athletes—it's about building a stronger community, where families learn together, children see their parents leading by example, and lifelong memories are made both on and off the track.
