Who are we?
Centenary Little Athletics is a not for profit sporting organisation which caters for children aged 5 – 16 in our Athletics program, and a Tiny Tots program for 3-4 year olds. We provide an opportunity to compete and achieve regardless of ability through personal bests rather than winning. However, there are opportunities for the more talented participants to obtain competitive experience at Region and State Level. Events offered at Centenary’s Little Athletics are:- Sprints/Long Distance, Race Walking, Hurdles, Relays, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, High Jump, Long Jump and Triple Jump. Our season runs from September through to March each year. Competition is conducted on Friday nights 5.45– 9pm. Training is held on Tuesday nights from 5-6pm. Check our facebook page for cancellations. Centenary's HistoryOur Centre was started from humble beginnings in 1981. We originally ran our competitions on Saturday afternoons from the City Council Oval Wongaburra St. Jindalee followed by Saturday afternoons at Jindalee State School followed by Saturday afternoons at Jamboree Heights State Primary School before returning to the City Council Oval at Wongaburra St. to commence Friday night competitions in 1989.
Over the years Centenary has produced many talented sports men and women and we look forward producing many more. Unfortunately in the 2010/11 season we saw numbers decline. This was in most part due to the extreme floods that occurred in Brisbane in early 2011 when we were unable to operate in the second half of the season and were forced to rebuild the club the following season as 90% of our equipment was destroyed. This unfortunately was also the year of our 30th celebrations but with an Olympic year the following year, Centenary’s registrations were renewed. Seasons following from this has seen the club grow and flourish welcoming new athletes and families, many of which are our own former athletes bringing their own children and introducing to them to the fun and excitement of athletics. |
